Synopsis

Eleven-year-old Rose is sick. Again. But this time, she’s not the only one in crisis. Encore follows the Rowe family as they navigate the fear and uncertainty of Rose’s latest diagnosis, grappling with the possibility that life might be turned upside down once again. In the midst of another worrying hospital visit, a team of well-meaning staff, including effervescent Kylie-obsessed Doniella, bring hope and humour to the ward. As emotions rise and relationships are tested, the Rowe family must band together to revive the heartbeat of the family.

 

Setting

Encore is set primarily in a fictional Australian hospital called St Bart’s, with most of the action taking place in Rosie’s room, a space that becomes a meaningful hub of connection as loved ones rally around her.

Ally, 17. Tough on the outside but fiercely devoted to her sister Rose.

Andy, 32. A hospital social worker, Andy exudes enthusiasm and compassion.

Doniella, 54. Equal parts kind and quirky, Doniella is a listening ear for Rose.

Cheryl, 45. A steely, no-nonsense nursing unit manager.

Doctor Standing, 40. A friendly doctor at St Bart’s Hospital.

Willy, 21. An empathetic nurse in training, still finding his feet.

Nelson, 21. Conscientious and socially awkward, Nelson craves approval.

Smithy, 48. A man of few words and the object of Doniella’s affection.
